AI visibility for brands · Reviewed

Your brand is missing from the answer. Here is why, and what changes it.

Sandcastle Labs is an AI visibility agency in Denver. We make assistants describe growing companies correctly, through brand and content strategy. When a buyer asks an assistant about what you sell, the answer either includes you or it does not, and most companies have never checked which.

What is AI visibility?

AI visibility is whether an assistant names your company, describes it correctly, and recommends it when a buyer asks about your category or their problem. It is measured by asking real buyer questions, repeatedly, across several assistants, and counting how often you appear.

Why does a brand go missing from AI answers?

Three causes account for most of it.

  • The entity is unclear. The assistant cannot tell which company you are, so it blends you with a namesake or leaves you out.
  • There is nothing to cite. Assistants answer from sources. If the only pages that describe you sit on your own site, there is little for them to corroborate.
  • The topic is thinly covered. Buyers describe a problem in their own words. If no page answers it in those words, the assistant fills the gap with someone else.

What does it look like in practice?

A developer-tools company with an open-source core came to us with strong adoption and a public GitHub footprint nobody had touched in years. When buyers asked assistants who does what they do, 1.25 percent of category answers cited the company's own domain.

The baseline read showed the cheapest fixes were not on their website. Assistants read READMEs as product documentation, and theirs explained how to install the code but not what the product is or who it is for. We wrote one canonical sentence saying what it is and who it is for, added a comparison table and an FAQ to the main product pages, and put the same sentence at the top of the README in 16 public repositories. Their team reviewed and merged 14 pull requests in about two weeks.

After the pull requests merged, the share of category answers citing their domain rose to 5.8 percent (7 of 120 answers in the July 2026 read). Their own third-party tracker moved in the same week: visibility rank up 15 places to #10, and average position from 8.5 to 4.1. Their site team shipped linking work in the same window, so we call this strong evidence rather than proof. The client is anonymous, and the full receipt, with the caveats, is on the receipts page. Our measurement method is on the methodology page.

How do you close the gap?

  1. Read what the assistants say today, on the questions your buyers ask.
  2. Write down who you are, whom you serve and how you want to be found. We call this the manifesto.
  3. Publish pages that answer buyer questions in the buyer's words, and fix the technical signals that let assistants tell you apart from a namesake.
  4. Rescan and report what moved, including what did not.

Questions buyers ask about AI visibility

How is AI visibility different from SEO?

Search ranks pages. Assistants write an answer and choose which companies to name in it. You can rank well and still be absent from the answer.

Can I check my own AI visibility?

Yes. You can ask an assistant your buyers' questions yourself. One answer tells you little, because the same question can return different answers, which is why we repeat each probe and report an interval.

How long does it take to change what assistants say?

Some fixes show up within weeks and the content work takes longer. We rescan every four to eight weeks and report the change either way.
